Default Clutch is ingaged even in neutral

So I have 2000 ranger and I was aware when it was given to me it had a clutch issue but I could not tell at all.
but after installing a new cd player I want to drive it and even when in neutral and I press the clutch petal in it grinds like a MF.
I was told it is likely a slave cylinder issue and I have the parts and even a new master cylinder,
I was wondering if the slave cylinder diagnostic sounds correct to others.

The Fluid is topped off and not leaking from what I can tell and the pedal has pressure.
Also I have a guy willing to do a work trade and was hoping to get this thing in gear to drive like 10 miles to his shop but I need to get it to stop grinding any tips or tricks to get a few more miles? I cant afford a tow truck!
I have pumped the clutch but can not do this while it is running as like I said it grinds really bad and wont go into gear without force.

I know it is a lot of questions and I greatly appreciate the help.
