Most fuel pumps are kept cool by the fuel itself. Good chance it overheated when you ran the tank dry. That's why everyone is harping on a pressure test.

yup...not many worse things you can do to a fuel injected engine then run out of fuel......if you do, you need to change the fuel filter immediately and if possible the sock on hte end of the pump as noted by "Bob C. of Indiana!!"

I lol when I read "harping" ....I know you are new here but you picked up quickly the general theme of these forums.

Most new members are pretty clueless on how to use the forums and about the trucks.

It can be amusing. A lot of times the member will sign on and only read the last of say 10 posts and just respond to that. Another funny things is they will not answer one if your questions but ask you 3 more!

I wish for example the OP told us if the fuel filter was clogged or if he added Techron. I usually make it to 4 pages on my phone app and then I unsubscribe if it appears fruitless!. Then some member will start flaming me for being a jerk or some overzealous mod gives me a warning . Then the thread inevitably will die out because the member complaining knows nothing about the repairs. . They also never mention the 35 posts I participated it before my patience was gone.

Welcome to the forum. My guess is you will be a great addition and an excellent contributor . "You Get It"!

Thank you for noticing the sock and to keep it half full to keep the pump cool...Sometimes I think my posts are invisible...What I hate is you help them and they don't have the courtesy to say you fixed their problem and you never see them again...LOL

LOL Same here, it seems the 9 out of 10 where I am nice and helpful are written on clear, see through text, but the one where I am a little nasty is in throbbing bold flaming red text

I agree about keeping fuel in the tank. I fill mine at 1/4. Mike from Bama is right, the fuel cools the pump.

I have a similar issue with my 2003 4.0. However, it will annoy me for up to 45 mins. I've noticed so far that pressing my fuel pump interrupter will typically allow my truck to fire. I think that the switch is killing the fuel pump and thus not letting the engine get gas. The interrupter is an inertia switch which is supposed to prevent a fire incase of an accident by turning the pump. My thought is that it is faulty and kicking on at random when I park my truck. I'll hopefully have time to test my idea soon. And I'll let you know. I think I might try to by pass it with a wire and see if my problem comes back. i'm gunna research it some more first though. And an fyi its a 65 dollar switch!
