Timing belt broke.. Now wont start
Hey, my timing belt broke the other day when i was driving. And i change it out today and for some reason my engine still wont start. It was running fine before the belt snapped. What could be my problem?

If you got the marks lined up right, and the crank sensor didn't get damaged, it will run.

This ^^^^ your probably 180degs off on the crank...Before you tear into it again ,remove your plugs and take a compression check. You can even look at the Tone Ring for the gap to be at the top near where the crank sensor would be..

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
Torque it down till it breaks off, then back it off 1/4 turn.

Will these Ford engines be damaged when a timing belt breaks? I have heard of other types engines having extensive, costly damaged when timing belts break.

Re: Timing belt broke.. Now wont start
Does the motor at least attempt to fire? Are you getting spark? Fuel? Compression?
Id bet your 180 out.
There is 4 strokes to the motor. It starts at TDC. That is, piston at its highest point, both valves closed. It then goes down and opens the intake, sucks in air fuel. Right at the bottom of the stroke, the intake valve closes. The piston then comes up, compressing the fuel and air. At the top of the stroke the plug fires, igniting the fuel/air combo. The piston then gets driven down again. When it comes back up, the exhaust valve opens to let the exhaust gas out.
Basically, the valves should be closed and right when the piston reaches TDC with fuel and air, the plug ignites. Forcing the piston back down, then it comes up with the exhaust stroke and out the exhaust valve.
If its 180 out, the intake valve is opening right when its firing, wich will make it not run.

Did you line up the dot on the crank with the mark on the block. Also the cam gear has two markings on it a diamond and triangle. The mark on the back part of the timing cover is a triangle. You have to line up both triangles.
