Fords attempt to increase fuel efficiency while reducing emissions. If you have a ecu signal wire break going to one of the coils you will get a condition that will cause a code P0175 system to rich because of the unburned fuel coming the two cylinders with one plug firing, then when the ecu tries to compensate by adjusting the fuel mixture the two cylinders with both plugs firing go way lean and get a very nasty detonation.

Yesterday i put my plugs back to the stock setup after running the dual plug mod for almost 2 years. And suddenly, my engine stopped pinging under hard acceleration and the knock at idle was greatly reduced. I've been running 87 octane with the mod so maybe i should have been using a higher grade gas to gain any benefits from the mod so yeah, if your going to do this mod use atleast 89 octane gas.
