Curiosity killed my Ranger
I need some help please. So today i was playing around with a Mustang Tuner. I have used this tuner on my 1999 Ranger 4 cyl. 2wd, to read engine light codes before. Well today i was about to read some codes to see why my engine light was on. I accidentally pressed the wrong selection on the tuner and it began reading "writing vehicle. Instead of unplugging it or hitting escape, I waited to see what would happen. Well what happened is my Ranger wont start, theres a relay in the engine compartment thats clicking like theres no tomorrow and the engine light is doing the same. I disconnected the battery and let it sit for a couple of hours and that didnt work. I tried to read codes again and it wont even connect with the computer anymore. Is it done?

Did you try unhooking the battery and see if it would reboot?

Re: Curiosity killed my Ranger
im gonna say based on my knowledge you have 3 options
1: have it towed to ford so they can reprogram the computer
2: find a new computer and install it
3: Sell it or scrap it

Well ,what you've done is write over the firmware on your trucks ECU without saving the original.
The only way to recover is to take it to a garage that can do what is done in this video......

Thanks for the suggestions, I cant believe i did that. I should know better. Maybe inside the back of my mind it was gonna tune it to run like a 5.0.

Re: Curiosity killed my Ranger
does it have a regular key or a PATS key? if it has a PATS key getting a new computer might not be enough itll have to get "programmed". if it has old style key just get a new computer ECU.
