Default How long can I go between oil changes?

I change my own oil and I use 5W-30 Castrol GTX conventional motor oil and a NAPA oil filters in my truck. I know its recommended to change the oil every 3k miles, but I have also heard that modern oils, even the conventional oils, can be changed less often than 3k.

Google is your friend. Conventional oil-----5000 miles
Blend--------7500 miles
Full synthetic--------7500 + depending on the oil and it's additives.

Depends on highway vs city driving. Mileage is just the easiest way to track it. A better way is engine running time but its impractical. I know I drive mostly hwy and my manual says 5k. I do it about 4500 generally tho. I use about 1/2 a qt between changes so when I get low instead of topping off I just change it.

I calculate mine by the 3,000 mark, and this is how. When I hit the 3K mark I get the oil changed whenever I get to it. I've been lazy, and gone to 5K before with no harm done.

I'd recommend sticking with 3k miles, that is what Ford recommended when they built your truck. A modern engine can run longer OCIs. The newer engines burn cleaner, have better PCV systems in them, as result they are designed to run longer OCIs without an issue. Your 1995 doesn't have these benefits, even though the oils have gotten better over time, I would still stick with Ford's original recomendation.

Outside of what the owner's manual says, you are going get all kinds of different answers. I go by what the manual says myself.

I go every 5,000 miles or 6 months and I use Mobil 5000 oil. On my new car, Ford recommends every 7,500 - 10k miles.

I am beginning to realize that. This is my first vehicle and this is the second oil change I'll be doing to it. The last one was when I first got the truck in from my uncle. I know my parents go every 6k on their cars. I guess I'll just stick with every 3k

I try every 3k. But i check the oil every time i get gas, so i normally let it go till the oil looks like it needs changed... dark etc. specially since i have to keep adding oil to it...
