Default 2.3L removal

Going to remove my 2.3L from my 85 Ranger 4x4. It's a PITA so far.

Everything is so close together and my big hands can't hardly fit in these tight areas.

The top bellhousing bolts near the heads are a PITA to get to! Like WTF?

Do I have to loosen the transmission and push it forward?

I know in my Courier I didn't have to when I pulled it's 2.3L out.

Plus, what were they thinking when they made the distributor holddown bolt! You can't hardly fit a damn socket on it. Finally got it off with a swivel.

The intake bolts are a PITA to get off, especially the bottom ones in the back. Stupid!

I know I'm going to buy new freakin gaskets on the 2.3L I'm putting on it so I don't have to go back later and remove the crap, not until another 200k miles hopefully.

i know how it is i'm 6'4'' and 340 and i just did all the on my 2.3 cause im putting a junkyard motor in mine and needed my valve cover and intake and distributor. figured i'd get the stuff off then take the rest of the motor out. but it's great putting all new gaskets and timing and water pump on so i dont gotta worry for a long time.

I wonder what the differences are between the different setups
My 83 2.3L took about 45 min to remove. Just disconnected all 10 wires to the block, radiator and heater core hoses, motor to tranny bolts, 2 exhaust bolts, motor mounts, and picked the whole thing right out with the manifolds still attached

I needed more clearance so removed the radiator for a little more room to pull it .

i reomved my 2.5 from my 99 ranger with no problems. i think theres lots of room. the biggest PITA is changeing the plug with on the intake side. has anyone seen or heard of the number one connecting rod breaking ?

No, I was trying to get the head out before I took it out to make sure I have to take it out but one stupid bolt prevented me from doing it so I yanked it out. Just open the oil pan out of it tonight....joker was on it's last limb....you can really smell that burnt motor oil.

----------

Well I put on the rear main seal. Had to take most of the main caps off blah....but I got to check the bearings and they were ok. I tighten it all back up to 64 ft/lbs each bolt.

I decided to keep my old oil pump from my ranger because it was reading good oil psi BUT found out the part store guy ordered me a wrong oil pan gasket..

yea. i got my engine in today also. i almost forgot the sheet metal between the bellhouseing and trans. had to spread it back apart and slide it in from the bottom. and those damn bolts to bolt the exhaust pipe to the manifold are a pain. one came out with heat and one snapped off. those bolts are hard! drilled it out and retapped it. and the spark plug wires are a pain!

Spoken from someone who didn't, and then the next day had to pull the front crank seal and re-seal that little piece of oil pan

it runns great. i found out that the motor i got from the junk yard had a rebuilt head on it. maybe the timing belt broke and they did that stuff while they had it apart? i had to burp the cooling system by disconnecting the upper heater hose and filling it the rest of the way with water. also i need to replece the master cylider for the clutch. the slave is not leaking so im leaning toward the master.
