Default Gas mileage

So I have a 95 Ranger with the 2.3L engine and manual transmission and I think I've been getting terrible gas mileage. I've been averaging 18 mpg. As far as know the rest of my truck is fine. I've recently replaced the thermostat hoping that would help but it hasn't.

Don't know if that is or is not good mileage with the 2.3L engine, but the thermostat is part of the cooling system. Probably will not impact the mileage one way or the other.

18 mpg combined driving, buy mostly city.

I've heard of people averaging about 22 mpg city though.

I think the people I've heard getting 22 mpg have the duratec engine.

I had 95 XLT Four cylinder stick and consistently got 20 mpg and didn't drive it to crazy that was all city stop and go. This was with now working gas gauge...ouch! But daily commute only had to run to work once or twice

Can anyone tell me what you are averaging in 3.0 v6 automatic?...Just got this truck running and think I will miss the four banger.

Ugh for sure will miss the four banger stick but oh well upgrade is nice as all the gauges in this truck work!
Any ideas to improve mileage in this model?...Still have tune up to do and replace air filter etc.
Thanks for the replies.
