Re: 97 2.3 heat fluctuations
@modelageek from what I have learned from some of the guys on here and from another ford truck forum these 2.3 lima motors do run colder than what would be optimum (from what i hear they like to run between 200 and 210) and they take a while to warm up. I have noticed that after doing stig's mod, the engine does warm up a little faster, not a whole lot but a little. Its worth a try if you like free mods haha.

Re: 97 2.3 heat fluctuations
I don't know why someone would say the Lima's run cold. They run as hot as the tstat regulates them to.
Replace the thermostat. A water pump with broken internals WILL cause the engine to overheat, so it isn't that.
Could be a bad temp sending unit or a problem with the gauge itself too.
If you thought the tstat wasn't seating correctly, why did you put it back in?

I will keep saying it again and again politely my gauge temp is working. I believe my ect is working correctly. When I start my truck in the morning when it is cold I could let it idle for an hour and it would not get hot enough to open the tstat. In other words the engine is just not creating enough heat to raise the coolant temp to a level that will open the tstat. Maybe my fan is toast but it seems to spin the way it should

This morning before I started the truck I checked the temp of the ect and the air charge temp. They both read 3 degrees F

This morning it was 19 out. I have stigs mod and my radiator covered. The ect and air both read 15. I warmed the truck for 10 minutes the coolant went up to 119 degrees. I repeated the exact same thing on daughters 98 Camry i4. After 10 minutes her coolant was 168 degrees.

When warming truck. Do you have the heat control in off position?
