Default 2.3 Duratec running issues

First off I would like to say the truck is drivable, no codes or anything. Im going to make it sound like the thing hardly runs, but actually most of the time it runs like a top.
But there are a few issues. First the truck pings/pre-ignites. It is prevalent at light load-high rpm and at full load-full throttle-high rpm. Under full throttle when it "pings" black smoke pours out of the exhaust, otherwise though there is no smoke ever under any conditions.(no black,blue,or white). It also seems to have a slight hesitation, when i shift it will sometimes buck like its loosing power particularly with low speed shifting (its not me i promise). It also feels as though the power fluctuates. Under same conditions(road condition, elevation, gear) sometimes the engine will have different response. Last two things are it eats oil and looses water. It looses water at a slow rate but eats a quart of oil every 1k miles. I'm fairly sure that there is more than one issue here but what could it be?
Head gasket? Blown rings? There is no water in the oil or oil in the water.
Any insight?

And like you said. Other things to. But I think that would solve a lot of your problems.

Is that common with the duratecs? I thought they were pretty much bulletproof
