replaced icm now wont start
so over the last year i have replaced both coil packs, plugs, wires and two burned up cats trying to fix a mis fire. the other day i fiddling with my engine, now the problem was intermittent so it has been really hard to diagnose but i nudged the icm and notice it would kick the engine to running better moved it back and it ran rough again did this sever al times on several occasions just to test the theory. i wedged something in there to keep it running alright until i got the new one. i replaced the old one and now the engine wont start it will turn over for days but nothing more. any ideas?

Re: replaced icm now wont start
The 3?screws that hold the ICM in place are also the grounds. They all need to be installed and the connections must be clean. My guess is when you wedged it the ground made contact and the truck ran better. Did you break a screw and only put 2 back?

I have heard about running extra ground from ICM to negative post on the battery or frame. In your oppinion modelageek should this be done from all 3 of the mounting screws? The last 2 things Im going to experiment with are the ICM and the ECC. I have replaced just about everything you can think of on my truck only to still have low power and hesitation. Both of which I can live with. But the 8 to 10 m.p.g. is truly killing me.

I believe the bottom left is the screw that you run the ground wire from.

some of the ICM's have 3 screws and some 4. I think on the 3 screw module the lower left is the one that is the ground......some people run an independent wire from there......your top left might work also.

I looked at the icm where the bolts connect through i can see a difference in metal between 1 of them to the other 3 but i went and picked up more bolts to connect them all, and also what is the cream stuff i need to put on the back of the icm?

the cream stuff should have come with the ICM.....put it on the back of the ICM......it is heat sink compound/paste .....without it your ICM will burn up pretty quickly.......

Great. If you still have the old ICM I would keep it. It might be fine. The problem could have been the grounding from the beginning?
