Default 2.3l duratec help

I have a 2003 ranger with the duratec 2.3l engine and it recently started leaking oil through the valve cover gasket i am planning on changing the gasket this week and since i already have to take the cover off i want to fix a ticking noise that the engine makes in low rpms 2000-2500 less or more than that and it's not there. I just need to know what i have to replace if anyone knows please help!

He meant that the lifters themselves are small, not "small lifters." Basically, the tick is normal, due to the fact that the valve momentarily contacts the piston, in the depression that was designed into the piston itself.

Your truck DOES have lifters, just not in the traditional sense. Because you have a DOHC engine, your lifters are what your camshafts use to overcome your valve spring pressure.

Think about it: Would your truck run if the valves didn't open and close? I think not.

Technically speaking they're called Bucket Tappets.

It's a common duratec noise. Just use the correct oil weight so it doesn't get worse. =/

So that's what that damn clicking noise is! Always wondered if that was just a noise the smaller motors make. Very helpful thread
