Re: IAC required?
Required...you will most likely get a check engine light and not pass inspection if unplugged. Doesn't your truck run bad with it unplugged?

You won't have a CEL or emissions problem.
The idle air control only controls the fuel and air mixture at idle.
You need it for proper idle.

Re: IAC required?
Why on earth would you want to leave it unplugged. It will not idle or run properly at any RPM. It isn't just idle that will be effected. The IAC doesn't disappear when you step on the gas, it is still there and still will be uncontrolled air bypassing throttle plate.

I cant even imagine an answer to this, but I have to say this is certainly one of the more interesting automotive forums I've been on!

Re: IAC required?
When its unplugged my truck runs fine. When i have it plugged up it revs up really high (3-4000) rpms when i clutch it. I have put 2 brand new ones on it and it still does the same thing with them. So i figured just leave it unplugged because it seemed to have fixed the problem.

I will assume you are a noob and refrain from the wiseguy comments. Yes the IACV is required. If it is acting up take it off and clean it out. If it still is acting up replace it.

He said in his last post, that he has replaced it twice and it is still giving him problems.

You can drive with your rear brakes removed but I would not recommend it......driving a car with an erratic idle that could cause your engine to stall at any moment is not my definition of "getting away with it"

I noticed that........I think what happened is that I read the thread on my puter at home and burst out into non stop laughter losing all sense of time.......when I came back to reality and stopped laughing I was in my truck and I posted from my droid..........I think about an hour or so had lapsed.........My bad!!!!!

Well then ......there is something else causing your idle issue.....I would recommend getting a code reader/scanner and checking periodically for codes. I have solved lots of issue by monitoring my OBD system and catching pending codes.......
* P.S. Disconnecting a sensor on your truck is not fixing the problem!

That is just not true on the OP's truck. He will at a minimum get a P1504. In my State you can not pass the yearly inspection with any codes.

Stinkbait. Question for you. How do you get your signature to show up on the FRF APP?

Re: IAC required?
I had the same problem when I cleaned my IACV, you actually can put something between the IACV and the manifold and it will still run, albeit poorly. If you unplug it you will get a CEL right away.
I fixed my high idle issue by turning the idle screw down a hair. Can't stress enough, turn it a little at a time until your idle is what you want. Don't lower it too much or your throttle plate will get lodged in the housing and cause issues.
If you replaced you IACV I would recommend cleaning your MAF sensor as well. Use ONLY MAF Sensor cleaner.
After all that, your computer will still take a little while to "re-learn" everything so your idle will still be a little high but will smooth out the more you drive it.
