Default Too early for synthetic?

I've got around 12k miles on my ranger and its going to be due for an oil change within the next 2 thousand. I saw on the advance auto website that they have 5 quarts of Mobil 1 synth and a filter on sale for 27.99 which seems like a pretty smokin deal. So am I well past my 'wear in' period or should I hold off till later down the road?

Yea, I thought the price with the filter included was too good to be true, but it's not!

I'm not even sure how many quarts the 2.3 duratec holds. I looked in my manuals but saw nothing on how much oil my engine needs, I think it's 5?

It holds 4 quarts, and your truck was done with break in at the first oil change. They say 3600 miles for break in, so you would have been fine going synthetic at the first 5000 mile oil change. Of course, you know Mobile1 isn't fully synthetic anymore, right?

there is some debate about Mobil 1 not being fully synthetic. they lost a lawsuit to Castrol or someone like that . I think it is still a good oil. I use Valvoline syn power also. i have read about royal purple and I am sure they are great but pretty costly.I understand redline is good also. i read so much about oil i got a Popsicle headache. supposedly they are all dino oil but they are processed. so all the molecules are all the size.......

Why don't you guys just make trip down to the local riteaid or walgreens; and buy a bottle of KY jelly. I'm sure that will give your engines plenty of luberication.

This is what I was going to get 5 qts of:http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...%7CGRP2046____

So what they call synthetic is actually only half or partially synth? That's a little deceiving... they should just say it like it is. Is this bad news though? Will the Mobil 1 syn be bad for the engine because it isn't fully syn, or will it just perform less?

I was debating about using RP, but it's so damn expensive compared to other oils, even synthetics. The best price I've seen per qt is like $7.50 and I'm betting their oil filters cost around $15; so almost $55 for a DIY oil change . I may cave though, well see .

mobil 1, valvoline synpower, castrol fully synthetic and others are all good motor oils.
