Default Help:What is this drain leaking coolant below heater core tubing?

Hi everyone. This is my first post on this forum after a lot of searching and reading and have to say I have learned a lot. I own a 1995 ford ranger 5 speed 4 cylinder and it seems everything is beginning to go south on it slowly but surely. I am trying to save myself a lot of money from the mechanic on things that I can fix myself.
Here's my question. I recently noticed after driving one day that I was leaking coolant.I noticed reservoir was empty so I filled it with new coolant. After driving again with the AC on, I noticed it was beginning to blow "smoke" through the vents and smelled sweet, the sure sign of vaporized coolant. I pulled over and looked under the hood and tried to find where the coolant was dripping from. I found a small tube approx 1.5 inches long protruding and 2 feet down on passenger side firewall that was dripping coolant slowly but surely onto the exhaust manifold thus vaporizing it. After searching other forums and internet I thought it might be related to the heater core but when I looked again the heater core appears to be directly above this protrusion as it has the heater core has 2 tubes and this is only a single protrusion. I cannot for the life of me figure out if a hose is missing or if this is an overflow of some sort bu the fact it comes out of the firewall leads me to think that something is not connected correctly. PLEASE HELP. I will try to post a picture to make it easier.

It sounds like your heater core is leaking and the coolant is draining out the condensation drain for the A/C.

I agree with him^^^^^ the heater core is prob leaking into the drain. Pull the 2 heater hoses of the core and connect them together with a connector.

Awesome. It has been totally frustrating me because I did not know what this tube was coming out of the firewall. At first I thought it was the heater core, as mentioned previously, then realized the HC has 2 tubes and this was only one. I then did not know what part it played in the Coolant system. Is it a drain? Is there a hose missing someplace? I will try bypassing the HC and see if that fixes the issue. I live in Florida and RARELY use the heater if ever so this would be an easy work around as I hear this 1995 model is a PITA to access the HC as you have to remove the entire dashboard. Thank for your input all. It has been MUCH appreciated. I've tried Googling this thing to death and came up empty. There does not appear to be any coolant leaking into the passenger side floorboard though. Wouldn't I see a leak there if the HC was leaking? is the proper fix for this to replace the HC?

Most vehicles require that the whole dash be pulled to change the heater core. It sucks but that's how it is.

As far as it leaking into the cabin, not always like in your case. You could by-pass it for now but I would suggest replacing it sometime in the future. You could try getting the heater core brazed but with all the work that goes into getting at the core in the first place, it would be better to just replace it with a new one and be done with it.
