Default Idle Air Control Valve

Replacing the IAC on my new money pit...i mean 96 Ranger. In reading the forum extensively, it seems that Motorcraft is the preferred part replacement when possible. Can anyone tell me if that holds true for the IAC as well. most parts stores carry a 40.00 dollar one, the motorcraft one, only found at O'Reilly's btw, is 80.00 plus. Worth the xtra cash?? Thanks in advance for any opinions.

Get one with a 1 year warranty. If it lasts that long, you'll be good for a long time.

Have you cleaned the one you have on the truck? I cleaned mine and saved the money. Also I found out that I think mine was stuck closed because it idles a lot better now. It did take my computer a few trips to even out though.

www.rockauto.com has the motorcraft IAC for $50.00.

I have a used motorcraft IAC i can ship you for $15.00 from an engine im parting out. You would need to get the gasket.

PM if interested.

Yes...I did, along with the MAF and replaced TPS. was still experiencing the stalling at start-up/idle. However, your post makes me feel better, because after a few starts, it hasn't happened again. Hopefully the same result as yours. Thanks everyone for the input

You can but there are better options. Anything but MAF cleaner can damage a MAF. The IAC is much less sensitive.

Carb and throttle body cleaner or brake cleaner. Brake cleaner tends to do a more through job and dries faster but it depends on how plugged up the IAC is. The slower evaporation properties of the throttle body may work better if it needs to soak.
