I have a 2003 ranger with a 2.3L engine. I recently got 30" bighorn tires and had to get a bodylift to stop the tired from rubbing on the body. Would this truck be decent for some offroading or should i just keep the tires for looks and stick to the streets?

It's up to you man. I have a 97 reg cab 2.3 with 5 speed, and it's a freakin blast, I'm half assedly making a pre runner, I plan on bigger suspension just cause of the weak rear springs. ( EDIT) also what 19Delta says

Well I guess it depends on the type of off roading your looking to do. Where I live it would do just fine, but other areas not hardly so it just deppends man. Either way it does have potential to be really good so long as your not needing to do massive hill climbs.

honestly, its better to wait and get new springs and or a lift. i have a 92 2.3 that i used to wheel stock and it messed up my shocks and my steering. now i got a 4 inch rough country lift with a pro comp steering stabilizer and nitrogen shocks and its 1000 times smoother and i dont have to worry about anything breaking. trust me, its well worth the wait

do a real lift, not a body lift. the suspension components are too week to handle rigorous off roading.

If a body lift is what is needed for your type of wheeling then go with that. There are pros and cons to either type of lift, On my hunting rig all I need is my body lift but on my search and rescue rig I run both a body lift and suspension lift. So really in my opinion you should pick the lift that works for what you need.

Id say a 2.3 is just fine. I got a buddy with a 95 2.3 2wd with some springs and shocks all around. It mobs just fine. Add an actual suspension lift and maybe a little bit bigger tires and you'll be solid.

Cheapest thing that you'll actually notice is regearing it. Make it a little more peppy. Might lose some of the economy but can't have one without the other.

If the suspension is anything like my 96,
and my friend's 93 You'll destroy the stock suspension easily, it's really only meant for at most dirt roads, or somewhat rocky roads.

I have a hard enough time driving my V6 4.0 2WD in snow with the center of weight it has, I can't imagine trying to off road in one, I'd see having Front wheel pull as being vital for climbing or getting unstuck from mud,
I can't even get the truck to climb forward onto vehicle ramps when On dirt or grass, the rear wheels just spin and spin unless I put several sandbags into the bed to give the rear wheels grip.

What the fuck. That is a result of shitty ass tires. Im 2wd, been stuck once. I just completed 100 miles off roading with rocks, gravel, many many drainage ditches that,my bumper barely cleared and I never wheel spun once.

Yeah having 4wd is really only helpful when you get stuck. Unless you're rock crawling and I haven't seen too many rock crawling rangers out there.

you know, sometimes i can piss on the grass under my rear tire and get stuck lol!

but then again, it does pretty well for a truck in a little mud or snow and ice with some weight in the bed.
