how many people even have a 2.5L in this thread?.... I DO!.... not much you can do with 90-105hp.... but every little bit helps, maintainence, K&N, exhaust .. ... like in my qoutes... "it's a ford ranger not a Ferrari"

It is possible to get horsepower out of it dirt track racers use the 2.3s in the fourcylinder class. Some of em have a shit ton of horse power. But your four cylinder will never be fast without spending a considerable amount of money. Everyone wants 500 horsepower by buying a 2 dollar fuel additive or some metal tubing. You gotta spend money to be fast.

Our engine is a 2.5.When we get done racing it,it is going right in a street truck. Some of the guys that are running a modified class of 4cyl.are making some serious hp for a 4.Shaving the head all the way to the intake bolts, lite cranks, alum.rods, lite pistons etc.Spinning the motor over 8500 rpms makes for some good power

Im boosting my ranger for 1500. its also a cheap junk yard build cause you can take all the internals from a old 2.3 turbo mustang or thunderbird and run 20lbs and make between 300-400 horse on the stock block. You also have to realize that it is a lot of upkeep once you boost any car. You start letting it slide and thats when things start going wrong.

it can be done but theres a lot more to boost than people think and most poeple want that hp for less than 500 basically the only way to get power out of your economy motor is one thing...and this applies to all vehicles even fabled hondas ive had a few......direct cash injection....

Trying to keep this on topic, I own a 2.5L 5 spd ranger and would like
to know what else could I do to make it have a little more "umph," yet sustain gas milage.

my current mods-
Airbox cut open on fender side
Smooth aluminum intake tube
catback flowmaster 40 series w/side exit
8.8 rear end w/4.33's (running 32" tire)

I over maintain everything, transmission,
full syn oil, rear end, wheel bearings, fuel filter.

Other then keeping up on a clean PCV and IACV, I'm looking at doing an electric
fan but I am unsure how to go about that..

So does anyone else want to put up what they are doing with their 2.5L?

You can go to a 94 ranger tube header, not a lot of difference in the flow but takes about 20 lbs off the front.Anything you do to take off weight(removing spare, lighter seats etc)is just like making hp in the engine.

yeah, I read that the 2.3L 93/94 tube style header came stock,
which should be easy to get at the
junk yard. Technically if it has the egr and O2 bung it should
still pass smog...correct me if I'm wrong.

It should still pass smog.It would take a pretty savvy tech man to know it didn't come on that year not to pass the visual.
