Outside temperature doesn't affect oil untill about 190 degrees so unless you live alot closer to the sun than us, just run the recommend oil.

We don't live on Venus or Mercury so it's safe to assume he'd be OK with 5w20 or whatever the manual calls for.

Re: HP Increases
I am sorry to say that i have no magic wand to produce more performance. Here is an idea. Think about racing slower cars or that you win even tho the other guy didn't know he was being raced. Or pull up along side a ranger 10 years older than yours or a ford courier and you will see you actually do have "performance". Just joking around. I think my 2.3 is weak also. I just let everyone that wants to pass me to pass.

Re: HP Increases
To the OP if he is even still here after listening to all the bickering going on in HIS post...
You should try the dual ignition coil mod. I did it but I was looking for more MPG not HP like you are. It didn't make a big difference but it was definitely noticeable as I didn't have to down shift on some pretty good sized hills around here. It didn't give me any MPG change so I switched it back.
Do a search on here for it. It requires absolutely no parts and is totally free. Takes about 5 minutes. You could number the coil pack leads if you are worried about losing track of which ones go where but I think the cables are numbered.
Synthetic fluids may help a bit. Drain your trans. and rear end and use full synthetic in both. If you don't have any leaks try synthetic blend in the engine. Full synthetic can "clean out" the gunk that may be in some of the seals and gaskets and cause them to leak at a later date.
Speaking of rear ends someone else suggested 4:10's in the rear. +1 on that. This would be a good performance option but is going to suck the gas out of the tank on the highway. The cheapest way I can think to do this would be head out to the junkyard or pick-n-pull and find another Ranger with that rear gear. Check the sticker inside the drivers door for one with an axle code of 87 (7.5" open) or F7 (7.5" limited slip).
Routing around the power steering pump is something I hadn't though of but as it's reversible and fairly cheap why not try it. If you can live with out the A/C then maybe an even shorter belt and route around that too.
Check into Esslinger Racings power pulleys. I think they make one for the 2.3 with the sepentine belt. This will underdrive the alt., p/s, and everything else running off the belt, but it might "free up" a little HP. I think they are under $100.
Do a search here for someone who might be able to "re-tune" your computer chip. I haven't looked into this personally but from what I have read here it must shift when and where power is made. Might be a performance upgrade but I don't know.
These little 2.3's are only good for about 115hp stock IIRC so I can't see any huge improvements with out spending a lot of money. But putting together enough cheaper ones might give you a little seat of the pants boost.

Not wasting money by improving breathing, protecting internals and increasing economy. I guess you didn't get the sarcasm of the misspelled words. Have a good day.

HP Increases
look into jet performance parts, i put the jet performance chip on my 2007 2.3L ford ranger, it added about 30 - 40 HP. but after that i added a CAI, along with a performance MAF and also a 1" throttle body spacer, all that jumped it about 20 - 25 HP. I also put an apexi n1 muffler on it. Thats some ideas.

Re: HP Increases
I cut a hole in my floorboard so I can push the pedal down further. That seems to have helped quite a bit. I've got long legs too.

Did you wire your flux capacitor into the ignition circuit or right off of the + battery terminal?

so on a 4cyl engine that puts out 140hp stock....you added roughly 60hp with bolt on parts that have been proven to be garbage
your basically saying your 2.3 now puts out roughly the same power as a 4.0
you'd better call Ford cause you did something that hundreds of engineers couldn't do
