OK FireRanger. I'll admit when I'm wrong. I went to Wikipedia and the following confirms your statement..."Many high-performance engines are designed to operate with a high maximum compression, and thus demand fuels of higher octane. A common misconception is that power output or fuel efficiency can be improved by burning fuel of higher octane than that specified by the engine manufacturer. The power output of an engine depends in part on the energy density of the fuel being burnt. Fuels of different octane ratings may have similar densities, but because switching to a higher octane fuel does not add more hydrocarbon content or oxygen, the engine cannot develop more power."
Also, Canada did mandate a 5% ethanol content back in Sept 2010. The fuels here at my local filling station advertise a 10% content both on reg and mid grade. no such advertisement on the premium which confirms that it's likely a 5% - and since it mandated, does not require such advertisement. So, it looks like I learned something today - Thanks... But - I'm not switching back to regular.

It is a common misconception. It is advertised implying that there is a performance benefit by calling it "Premium" or "High Performance" or other fancy words. The reality is that there is nothing premium or quality about it. They don't teach this in any basic driving class. So most people don't know.

It'll give u something like 5-8 hp.
But the intake definitely is very restricted. I made mine for my 2.3 mustang, its pretty much a home built CAI, i did use a maf housing from crown vic cuz it has a bigger opening. Oh u do need an adapter though it cost about $20 spectre performance sell it i bought it through autozone, and another $20 for the air filter. Over all i spent like $65-$70

GO GO POWER RANGER!!!

Bypass your power steering pump. Believe it or not, Ford built some rangers without power steering. Go to advance auto and pick up a new serpentine belt. Part number 415K6. The belt will run the crank, water pump and alternator. Make sure you take out some power steering fluid from the filler cap. I removed about half a quart. If you don't do this, it will squirt out and make a mess. Power steering is over rated :-) Belt is $10.99 and you will notice more power. If you don't like it...it's reversibe. Just put the fluid back in the pump and put original belt back on. I can't believe that more people aren't doing this on the 2.3 or 2.5. BTW...It will work on both engines.

What? U saying im lying? U know the 2.3 isnt a high performance engine by any means, the only way to really increase hp would be a turbo. But he's short on a budget and im just giving him options

cant everyone just get along? its a 4 banger ranger for christs sake, just relax and enjoy the awesome mileage. no need for performance. they perform fine from the factory. its when *******es cut the exhausts off and add fancy filters that things get fucked up.

No he isn't saying you're lying. He's saying your just wrong. Wrong by accident, because you don't know any better.

Wrong by the hp number? Maybe, its just a guess but i do know its not that high. Im not gonna go to the dyno after puttin in a cai, that would be a waste of money.

No no. DV is not agreeing with the higher number. He's implying that it is more like zero. I think he may have meant to quote the guy who thought he was getting 20hp from a plastic tube. Either way, many experts without a financial stake in the company selling the product have tested them (on dynos) and shown they do absolutely nothing on our vehicles.

Ummm. Maybe it's because we like being able to steer?

Damn governor cut me out at 100mph. Again, not a substantial change, but one on the cheap. Just be sure your truck is tuned proper. Oh! and I got a small bump in fuel savings to boot even with the cost increase to hi-test (premium) fuel.
Next, I want some aluminum rims and performance tires to cut rolling weight and give me a better (again small) power to weight ratio with increased handling.
Small steps and keeping the costs low.

5-8 hp gains are nonsense with a CAI.

If it prevents others from wasting money, I won't shut up. Learn how to spell since half the words in your post are spelled wrong.

I did a throttle cable mod, put on a K/N cone filter, Oil change with 10W-40, new plugs and wires, and seafoamed. It runs so mch better and it costs about 70 bucks.

So you used the wrong oil, a filter that sucks in power reducing hot air, and think that is helping? How so?
