What should I do with my rangers piston slap....
http://youtu.be/n8LiJGXcoLQ
Is it safe to keep driving, or tear it apart, and rebuild the bottom end by myself ?
Its a 2.5l with 253k miles

That's a good amount of miles and a lot of noise...I would say its time for a rebuild. Just my opinion....I'm sure others on here will tell you otherwise.

Re: What should I do with my rangers piston slap....
Sounds to me like there is a rebuild in order, and like others I would rebuild the whole engine top to bottom. I have a 93 Ranger XLT 2.3l with 227k on it and I'm seriously thinking about rebuilding it when it hits 300k all it really needs is coils and a icm. But this truck means alot so. Good luck with the rebuild.

Rebuild or get a replacement engine from a junk yard. The latter option would be cheaper, quicker, and easier up front. Whether it would be in decent shape, would be a crap shoot. I did ok on the one I got for my '98.

Try carpart.com. That will list the junk yards in your area that have one. Many of them list their stuff on there.

Man I have a 94 4.0 and it has 218,xxx and it started burning coolant really bad and the motor was ticking so I just got one from a JY with 87,xxx and put it in the shop today. You'll regret it if you don't rebuild the whole thing at once

I'm with sgtsandman....unless you have a jones to rebuild an engine I would ...find a used engine.....easier and cheaper........look on CL I see them often.....if you go with a used one throw a new TB , oilpan gasket and rear seal on it as well a s a clutch kit if you have a 5 speed.....

there are a few on CL in my area.here is one that is 2 weeks old.....you probably could get it for 500 or 600.. http://capecod.craigslist.org/pts/3045468239.html...do the swap on a weekend and advertise the rest of the parts off the truck as you are swapping....the bed, tranny diff etc......should let you recoup most of the purchase price......and then dump the truck at a junkyard for the tow fee.....
