Default Low Oil Pressure At End Of Oil Life?

Hi guys. I have low oil pressure consistently at the end of every oil life (and sometimes in between). It goes from consistently halfway in between the normal zone to just outside or on the line for the low end of the range.

Anyone heard of this? It usually returns to normal after an oil change, but this time it didn't. I'll watch it go back up to halfway every now and then while driving, but it stays pretty low. Could it be the sending unit? Oil pump?

If it is the sending unit, any suggestions on a MECHANICAL replacement? Thanks!

9 times out of 10, widely fluctuating oil pressure is caused by worn main / rod bearings on a high mileage motors, It's not unusual to see small fluctuations in a good engine. In the many years I've worked on cars I have only had one oil pump that caused low pressure, and thats because of a weak pressure regulator spring.

Torque it down till it breaks off, then back it off 1/4 turn.

Just a generalized answer because you gave no info about your truck.
The earlier Rangers have actual oil pressure gauges and from the 90's on use a dummy gauge that will just stay at halfway as long as the pressure is at least 7-10 psi.

I have a a 1994 Ranger 2.3L... And I actually thought about this because I knew some Fords have dummy gauges... And I gotta say, that's the stupidest thing I have ever heard. There's a reason Ford got a bad rap for a while from Chevy and Dodge folks.

Anyway, anyone else heard about dummy gauges on 90s Ford Rangers? I bought a mechanical oil gauge tonight to put on.

Rangerman49, this engine only has 143k miles on it... Disappointing that, providing my oil pressure is actually low, the main bearings are worn already....
