Default Finding TDC on a 97 ford ranger 2.3L

Any alternative tips to find TDC on a ranger without the use of special tools?

Put a screwdriver in the spark plug hole, roll the engine over BY HAND!!! Don't use the starter or it could kill you throwing a pointy object at you. Wait till the screw driver stops going up. Other then that...which is the redneck way...take the head off. Or go rent the correct tool from auto parts store
