Re: Need more power
conduct more research. this question has been asked many times, many ways. start by searching the forums - specifically the one that deals with your engine type.
to point you in some direction, the first thing I always do to get a little more out of my motor is replace the paper air filter with a K&N, relieving the exhaust system and disengaging accessories like the A/C compressor. you can also change the gearing in your differential(s) to a lower ratio to make it feel like your truck has more power.
what i've been learning about rangers recently is the smaller v6's and i4's don't respond to cheap power like my 5.0 does.

to the OP, nothing really gets more power on these Rangers, maybe a tuner coupled with exhaust and thats about it.

Re: Need more power
Bypass ac condenser and power steering with a smaller serpentine belt. Part number 415k6 from advance auto...$14.99. Just remember to suck out some of the power steering fluid from the reservoir or it will come out on its own. Belt will wrap around crank, water pump, and alternator. My 98 didnt have ac, but had power steering. Not anymore...kinda stinks pulling into a parking lot, but you get used to it. Someone here also mentioned an electric fan...not sure, but you might have one on the 2002. I know the belt works on a 1996 2.3 and my 98 2.5...if it doesn't work on the 2002, you can return it. Should though.

I would say to start with cold air intake, better plugs, possibly some bigger injectors which some times Calls for a higher preassure fuel pump, and straight pipe it if u don't mind a loud vehicle and your state allows it...yeah it may sound like a ricer but the power and fuel economy gains are worth it, stock size tires and keeping your fluids in control works as well
