Default 94 range 2.3l heater core hose hook up help!

Hi guys/gals,
I am trying to hook up my heater core that was originally by-passed by the previous owner. I am confused on which hose goes where...
The heater hose that comes from the top of the engine(near tstat housing) should go to the inlet of the heater core, but which one is the inlet on the heater core itself? Is it the one closer to the driver side ? Please help.. What would happen if it's hooked up backwards? Thank you!!

On my 1993 the top hose (from the thermostat housing) goes to the left, the bottom hose (from the waterpump) goes to right.

I'm not positive but I think the heater core is just an open loop so it should not really matter which way the hoses are hooked up on there. But I may be wrong.

Thanks guys, I have hooked up the upper thermo stat hose to the passenger side and will report back if anything bad happens. So the heater core in a 94 is also a open loop? Thanks again for the help.

on mine 2.5 the hose from the t-stat housing goes to the tube/pipe closer to the driver side.......the passenger side hose runs to the bottom of the water pump(the return)............do you know why it was bypassed......my guess is it was leaking?.........not to worry though..... the 1994 and earlier trucks only take 20 minutes to change and the part is $25....the 1995+ the part is $25 bu take about 8 hours to change.

Yeah I was thinking about taking the heater core out and see if it's leaking. Guess I should, just in case it was clogged or leaking. As for the hose hook up, I have seen/read people connect the hoses both ways, so I am guessing it's an open loop and it does not matter which way the hoses goes into the heater core? Thanks

Yeah, on my 1992 4.0 it only took about 15 minutes to change. I'm also thinking your's was probably leaking so instead of changing it out they by-passed it.
