Single overhead cam vs dual overhead cam. Think of your engine having a Certian amount of valves what controls them is the cam. Like for my engine v6 2 valves per cyl 12 valve engine. And is a ohv pushrods not overhead cam but there is a cam and it controls opening and closing of valves on a vehicle with overhead cam usually has a higher output or efficiency due that the cam lobes are assisted by gravity in opening a valve. But the real advantage to a dual overhead cam is that it can have more valves per cylinder which allows more power and the possibility of greater efficiency. That's why you usually see on a DOHC 4 cyl engine 16 valve 8 intake 8 exhaust. And there's a individual camshaft for each set of valves. But there have been 4 valve per cyl SOHC. I say DOHC is better but I'm sure others will debate. The newer 2.3 should be a DOHC

----------

Yours I do believe is the SOHC. I know the 06+ 2.3 are DOHC

It was actually mid-2001. Overhead valve-camshaft is in the block, single/dual overhead cam - the camshaft is in the head. It is confusing, since technically, both configurations have the valves in the head.

Here's a great animated explanation of all 3. http://www.samarins.com/glossary/dohc.html

Over head cam (ohc) means the camshaft is above the valves. Overhead valves (ohv) the cam is in the center of the block and the valves are opened by pushrods that extend from the cam to the valves on the top of the engine. Yours is a SOHC

Volvo head= no yours is a SOHC a 16 valve is a DOHC the head would be to wide. And as far as boosting maybe 50-60 hp you would need the turbo intercooler your truck would need to be tuned to run with the turbo. Not to mention where you would fit the turbo what size you would need and all kinds of other factors. You wanna Turbo your truck get ready to spend 1000+ on parts and allot more on labour if you have a shop do it

Lol im rb and sr when it comes to Nissan engines. my bud had a ka an it was a good engine but it couldn't handle all the stuff he did(drifting) it kept blowing a turbo gasket and eventualy threw a rod. but I recon if you run 8 psi and your not always bouncing off the rev limiter a ka will last
