Default Gas milage?

Hello all. I have a question about my gas milage... I have the 2.3L with a 5 speed and my truck is a '95 model. I drive like 50-55 miles one way to work (and of course, the same on the way home), and I just got 310 miles on this tank of gas. And I am sitting below an 8th of a tank right now. 99.9% of my driving it highway driving with the cruise control set at 65mph. Its like maybe 5 miles of that in the city the rest of it is highway miles. is this normal for Rangers or should I be getting better gas milage. My last car I had would get over 500 miles to a tank and now Im barely getting over 300. Thats a really big jump... haha but this is really starting to piss me off cause of gas prices, I am having trouble paying for gas.. Like I gotta drive to work tonite on this tank cause I just dont have money for another tank and Im hoping my check hits the bank before I get off cause if not, then im stuck at work until it hits the bank. Is there anything that I can be doing to get better gas milage? Going to do the oil change when on my next day off next week and see if that helps. Any ideas? I appreciate any inputs. Thanks in advance..

Probebly a 14 gallon tank, 310 miles, guessing 12 gallons to fill it back up, thats a good 25 miles to the gallon, not really too shabby.

Got a tool box with stuff like extra oil, power steering fluid, coolant, just extra stuff like that and a small tool bag of tools just in case I brake down somewhere and my work bag. But thats it not too much. It dont even fill up a quarter of the tool box...

I get 30mpg pretty regular and have nearly the same drive as you. 60+ miles one way but mine is mainly 2 lane blacktops. That is by choice though. The tolls in Illinois will kill you even more than buying gas. Using the cruise and doing 65mph are hurting you. Leave 10-15 minutes earlier, drive 55mph with your foot, and don't worry about all the folks staring at you when they pass you on the left. That's what the other lane is for, right?

I mod for mileage, not power. My truck is transportation, not a 4x4 or street truck. There are some really neat trucks here that fall into those categories, just not mine. PM me if you want and I'll give you a list of the things that I have done on mine that have really helped.

Good luck.

You are comparing a trucks gas mileage to a car...you will have a hard time getting the same or even close...its just not a logical thing to compare...

What part if Illinois are you in? I hear that, I loathe tollways!! I also agree, that a 10 mph drop from 65 to 55 can make a world of difference. The Chicago area is THE worst, "I'm doing 10-15 over the limit and you're still shooting me daggers? Fuck you!!"

Ok so here is the info on it. I drove to work last night with the gas light on cause I had to wait to get gas until I got paid today and I got gas this morning at work... I had a total of 348 when I filled up and I calculated it and I am getting 19.6 miles to the gallon... According to fueleconomy.gov, im should be getting 20 city, 26 highway, and 22 mixed... And since 99.9% of my comute is highway, I would like to get up to the 26 if its possible... Although, 19 is not bad at all..
