Default Re: engine temperature sensor location 2.3L

well, OBD I only sensed the exhaust coming out of the head, not after the catalytic converter,so u can take that off,i believe Ford used an Intake temp sensor(IAT) as well as a Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor(MAP),so if you take the IAT sensor and put if where it gets cold fresh air,the engine always thinks its getting cold dense fresh air,so it will always give the engine more fuel (not recommended for a worn out motor, or for winter) but these are just a few things that you can do to "Bypass" the Computer. OBD II made it almost impossible to "Outsmart" the computer by doing these things, mostly cuz theres two O2 sensors for the exhaust,a "Before" and "After" the Catalytic Converter, which means you cant take it off...

Hah, thanks for the advice, I will look into it more once I clear my last code 224 and get it smogged.

Were you ever able to identify sensor #1? I also have this sensor and wanted to know what it is.

If you don't already have one. Buy a Haynes or chilton manual.

This is interesting, because I just got my ranger on friday, and the temp gauge is not reading. It's throwing the codes p1532, and p1437, one of them is for the temperature, I can't remember what the other one is for again. Anyways, upon looking under the hood I found a sensor hanging on the drivers side of the engine, it had been broken off. I can't really tell from the pictures, but does this sound like it's in the right location of the temp sensors? I'll try and take some pictures of it this afternoon.

I've got to take a picture of this broken sensor tomorrow, but I mean it's GOT to be the water temp sensor because that's the only code it's throwing. Other than the code for the little plastic tabs in the intake runners that allow the butterfly valve to open wider.

I honestly kind of feel like a complete idiot. I fell for the whole resistor performance chip on eBay. Now my truck barely runs. And I've lost power in every gear. It honestly feels like I'm constantly driving through water. About 3" of water.
