the only tranny you can swap is one from another ranger with your engine and drivetrain setup. i'm no tranny pro, but i know you cant get all willy-nilly and just throw anything in there.lol

What is your engine/transmission combo? And what went out in the tranny, just out of curiosity?

Ah, yeah sounds like it went in spectacular fashion. The only little thing I could think of that it may be, would be if the shift linkage came loose, but I doubt thats the case. Might be worth a look though.

Depending on your time frame and wallet, it might be better to have your tranny rebuilt, rather than putting in a new one. A good rebuild should run somewhere around $750, and you'll basically have a new transmission. Otherwise, try to find one in a junkyard and hope it's in good shape. I try to stay away from JY auto transmissions after I spent a week swapping in 4 transmissions before I got one that worked. But if you're low on funds, labor is "free" if you do it yourself.

ya. we might be going to the junkyard i kinda have to fix 2 cars though. i have to fix the ranger for my dad because gas prices go up and he drives a 2004 ford lariat (nice and expensive) and i will be getting my grandparents 1994 ford explorer. but i have time so it will be worth it.

Not to sound harsh or anything, but have you checked the fluid to make sure its at the correct level and it isn't burnt?
