Default How often...Spark Plug

I am wondering how often should I change my Spark plug and my Spark plug wires?

Well Ford says 100,000 miles with their platinum plugs.

however, I've had guys tell me they plug the original plugs out at that time and they take the threads out of the alluminum head!

So, if you wanna forgo replacing them i would do this:

Every 30,000 miles or so, remove the plugs and put some anti-seize on them. you can buy the stuff at autozone or kragen. its pretty cheap for a nice sized tube (around 5 bucks i think).

just apply some to the threads, NOT THE TIP! just the threads.

this would also be a good time to clean your plugs (toothbrush and carb cleaner, I use Berryman) and apply some Di-electric grease on the inside of the plug boot/the porcelin of the plug.

do this will keep your plugs sparking hot and your threads from becoming one with the cylinder head.

Or replace your plugs at 50,000. thats also a good rule of thumb. its really up to you.

I changed mine out @ 70k, then I found out I could have waited until 100k, glad I didn't now. They looked ok though which is great, but odd when you normally consider doing it every 30k, lol.

I did apply lock-tight to them so they shouldn't go anywhere.

Lock tite? ive never heard or anyone doing that before. whats the purpose behind that?

Oh God please don't do that! I was just kidding and waiting for someone to call me out on it.... lock-tight is stuff you add to bolts that you don't want coming loose.

I actually used anti-seize, it makes it easier to unbolt the spark plugs when you need to change them again.

Bought my truck used and previous owner didn't do much unless it broke. Had 122,000 miles on it when I replaced plugs and wires. Plugs were original and shot...surprised it still ran...I wouldn't go much past 75,000 miles on these trucks before replacing them. No struggle getting them out....just wish my hands were smaller.

lol i changed mine a 123000 and they were fine but i changed em just for maintenance purposes

If you are at 70k you could do them if you wanted, Ford says 100k and then others here say they have gone longer..... so it seems like its whenever you want to really.....

Just changed mine @ 135,000. Didn't look all that bad. Even though the boots came off easy thinking I should change at least the passenger side?
