Talking 1997 2.3L Ranger with rough idle, possible timing issue.

Hello all, this is my first time being on this forum so if I seem like a noob forgive me.

So my problem is my 1997 2.3L Ranger with a manual transmission. My engine has been running roughly and when I give it gas it either cuts out or tries to die. So I did some looking around and I noticed that there is a slight oil leak from the head.

So I replaced the head gasket and timed the engine and it is still running like crap. Here is a list of things that I have replaced.

IAC, Head Gasket, Valve Cover Gasket, Coil Packs, Plug Wires, Plugs, and some Damaged Vacuum lines, as well as, a few EVAP parts.

I know for a fact that I still have a valve cover gasket leak because one of the bolt unfortunately sheared off, and my efforts to remove it were futile.

With that being said I am assuming my issue may be the TPS - throttle position sensor. Or it could be the injectors??? No codes are being shown as well as the engine light is not coming on.

I'm at a loss for words because I am unsure of what is going on. My next step is to install a new ECM wiring harness that I pulled from a salvage yard and new computer. I'm assuming that it may have failed. I'm not sure..................

I'd start with:
"I know for a fact that I still have a valve cover gasket leak"
If you can't fix it, ask a buddy, or find a mechanic you trust.

I have thought about that, but at the same time I have a hard time believing that would be the cause. I even tried one of those grab it bits to remove the sheared valve cover bolt and the damn bit broke. I also noticed when it comes to the valve cover bolts that they never seem to become tight like all of the other bolts. Which is really frustrating because you can't tell when or if the bolt is going to shear off. My guess is the compressibility of the rubber gasket makes it difficult to judge the tightness of the bolts. I guess if all else fails, I will take it to a shop like you said and have it tapped.

Try the fuel filter too, if it starts to get clogged gas wont flow as well and when you push on the throttle it'll feed more air and the same amount of gas making it wanna cut out.
