Default Cant remove drum brake cover

The other day I noticed a dragging/grinding noise when I brake. I determined it was one of the rear wheels. I then jacked the back of my truck up and realized it was something in the passenger side drum assembly. I opened the port to adjust the adjuster plate wheel to inspect it and I found the red spring and also the adjustor plate was laying at the bottom loose. I have been fighting to get the drum cover off but it won't come loose. I've tried prying on random items in the adjustor plate hole in the back. I've whacked it with a 2lb sledge. And I even ended up breaking the pins that hold the shoes to the back of the drum off with a chisel. But still I can't pull the dang cover off the drum.

I replaced both of the shoes a few weeks ago with a new hardware kit, brake boosters, and resurfaced the drums. I believe the old adjustor plate somehow failed. New ones didn't come with the hardware kit, and I was unaware that O'reillys sold them separately. So I have a new hardware kit, and two new adjustor plate kits. I just need to pull the front of the hub off but can't manage to do it.

What are my options? I need to fix this asap.

Not sure what you mean by drum cover, if you're talking about the brake drum, and you had it off two weeks ago, it should pull off easy.

Yeah that is what I'm talking about. At the same time I inspected the driver side drum and the cover came off with no effort. I don't get what's holding the other side on so tightly.

You probably have something wedged between the drum and shoe. I had the same thing happen to my 74 Chevelle, the only way to get it off is to beat it off there. Get something heavier than a 2lb sledge and hit it in a chris-cross pattern till it's free.

You can try to shoot some oil in the space between the two to try and loosen it up. Like was said earlier, giving it a couple of waks is probably going to be needed!

I couldn't get it yesterday, so I sprayed her down with wd-40 and will try again tonight after work. Hopefully the drum breaks free.

The E-brake does not function. I'm about to head out and tinker with it.

spin the spindle adjuster nut to loosen the ebrake spring.
spray with lubricant of choice
gently beat with small sledge
replace shoes and possibly drums

I gave the drum a good smack with my 2lb and it popped loose. Replaced the pieces that failed inside the drum with new. Went to turn my truck over.. it wouldn't fire. Damn thing has only been sitting there for two days!
