As long as your truck is properly tuned and you're driving under normal conditions I would say yes.I can't tell you the last time I changed my oil at 3,000 miles.

I change my oil before 5,000 miles, I try to hit 4,000. Older truck, don't want/need problems!

I do know that newer cars have much longer oil change intervals. My wife's Veracruz is listed at 7,500 for oil changes, I do it at about 5,000.

My 'vette has an oil monitor that shows percentage of oil life remaining. It will tell you when it needs a change and supposedly tracks how hard you drive and adjusts the % as needed. I don't drive it very hard ... mostly ... and since new the mileages have been nearly 10,000 before it gets close. I'm sure it would get to 12,000 before the reminder. I change it before the Drivers Information Center says it is time. GM suggests following the %, no need to change more often. Unless you have a garage queen, then at least once a year. As I recall, several manufacturers have this kind of system.

Ha. I go like 10,000-15,000 between oil changes. Anything less in a vehicle with normal use is a waste of money, especially with synthetic.

I read a report that changing your oil @ 3,000 miles was a waste of money and resources. I've owned cars since the 70's and has rarely changed at 3,000 and NO problems thus far.

I said earlier that I change my oil at 3000 miles.

I admit that on my previously vehicles, I didn't keep up on it like I should have. One car I had would see 10K between oil changes, and that car had sludge problems.

I had wanted a Ranger for years before I finally got one, and I vowed to stay on top of all the routine maintenance with it. That's why I'm so fanatical about changing my oil at 3K, although there have been a few occasions where it's been closer to 5K. But I've always done it within 3-5K.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it a "waste of money", but I fully admit that it's more often than necessary. Especially with blends or full synthetic.

At the end of the day, it's up to the individual and what they're comfortable with. For me, the peace of mind of having fresh oil and the feeling of satisfaction I get knowing I'm doing my part to keep her running strong are totally worth the extra cost.

But you won't hear any argument from me when you say that changing it at 3K is changing it prematurely. You're right.

Yeah thats true! Its never a waste of money! You will feel better on your end that you have accomplished something. But i am going to change the oil soon because i did about 3000 so far.. But i am going to try to keep it between 3000-5000 like everyone said.. But mostly like 3000

Yea but 3000 miles is not an ounce of prevention for anything with normal driving. Its nothing but oil down the drain, time down the drain, money down the drain, and profit for someone somewhere. I mean, its your money your wasting so to each his own. Would you change your coolant every 3,000 miles?

The owners manual says 7,500 miles or 6 months. I'm doing that..

I see no point of doing change every 3 months or 3,000 miles... Only time that should be done if a lot of stop and go, or dirty driving.
