Default PCM question

I was having problems with my truck idling high and the P0505 code kept coming on even after I put in a new idle air control valve, and the check engine light would still pop up. So i took it into one of the local ford dealsrships to get a diagnosis on it, and they told me that there was a problem with the PCM, and that I would need a new one. The guy there told me the price for them to locate, install, and program a new one was going to be $450, and he said that it was going ot be difficult fo rthem to find one since hey done't make them anymore. So he recommened that I bought do some research and buy one and that they would install it and do the programming for $150. So my question is, do I need to get one from a ranger of the exact same year (1999), engine size (4cyl 2.5L), or could I get one from a ranger of a different year and engine type? Could I even get one from a mazda truck because I heard that they are pretty much the exact same? Thanks.

You can get an ecu already programed. Be sure to ask if it comes programed. Before you change the ecu try backing out the throttle stop screw 1/2 to 1 turn. I had p0505,replaced the iac,it came,I backed out the stop screw and it has'nt came back.

Thanks. One final question. So I found one from a ranger of the same year, except its from a 6 cyl 4.0L xlt and it is a 5sp. atutomatic, and the parts numbers match up until the final three digits.
Mine are: xlf-12a650-ara
Its are: xlf-12a650-rb
Mine is also a 5spd. manual, while he said his is from a 5sp auto. So will it still work, or no?

It has to be from a 4 cylinder with a 5 speed manual. Get one out of a 99.
