Why do you want to do that?

You don't replace it with anything.

well i thought it restricted the air flow? and removing that and putting some sort of straight through there would increase that

If your airbox itself is the same size, as well as the tube from the box to engine, how are you going to force more air through it?

theres a restrictor on the pipe....removing it should get you more airflow.... because it restricts the air... so therefor its not getting all the air from the stock air box

I have done the exact same thing with my 4cyl 97. Easy, increases noise, I felt some power increase, nothing insane, but showed on the highway.
It doesn't take any skill to do the mod, just a flat head screwdriver.

I didn't replace the pipe, I just pulled the restrictor out of the tube and then put the tube back in.

They are hose clamped on, and it takes less than a minute to take on and off.

sounds simple enough, i thought you needed to replace the pipe thats what i was concerned about
when i get out of school today im gonna take that restrictor out

thanks for your help Buddy.

(EDIT)
i got the pipe off the intake but couldnt remove the inner part of the muffler so instead im gonna replace it with a 3" diameter 8 1/2" long piece of PVC or stainless.
