Default Replacing coolant hoses on 2003 2.3L

I had the intake off and figured that it would be a good time to replace some coolant hoses down there while I had better access. I was about to call up Ford to see if they had them but I noticed how they all went behind the engine. I looked in the Ford service manual and for about 4 hoses the remove/install instructions say "remove transmission". I know for the EGR valve which is back there the manual says remove automatic transmission, but for manual you can just take off drive shaft and tranny mount and lower it to get access. If this works for replacing EGR valve, why wouldn't it work for the hose that connects to it, and all of the other hoses are run back there? I now wish I had replaced all of those hoses when I had the transmission out to replace the clutch last year.
