Smile Thermostat

Ok people i'm new to this. I'm trying to find out about my 2002 ford ranger. It's 2.3 4cyl, and the temperature hand is not coming above the cold line. I'm sure it's the thermostat but what's up with having to put the whole housing deal in. What will be the best place to find one and what will it cost. I checked autozone and o'reillys here and they are saying 150+. Does n e one have any advice for me? Thanks in advance..

You only have to replace the t-stat housing if somethings wrong with it and its leaking. Otherwise just change the thermostat. Get the same Motorcraft tstat that your truck came with. Shouldn't be more than $35-40 at rockauto.com.
I changed my tstat for the first time earlier this year and my housing was fine so I reused it. Its been 4 months now, still no problems

I had same issue with my 2002, 4-cyl, and Auto Zone (in NJ) had the thermostat (only) in stock.
