I need some help I have a 1994 Ranger 2wd 2.3 5 speed . It is really hard to start and idles fine for 10 seconds and gets really rough and then wont start. I put starting fluid in the throttle body and it starts and the process repeats. I put in a new fuel pump and filter a week ago. I also replaced the fuel line due to is having holes in it. the truck ran fine til today . I thought it jumped time but not so. I am lost what can i check next

did the check engine light come on?

no check engine lite its almost like its not getting gas

I still ave trouble starting the truck . Once it starts and warms up its ok . while it sits idling it will start to sputter and run rough step on the gas and it acts like its out of time then it clears up. My buddy says the cat is plugged im just really lost and need help with some advice . Tking it to a dealer is out of the question and the funding is very low. This is my kids truck and im trying to help him out.

Plugs? Compression test? Could be a warped head and once heated up seals its self

OK I changed the coil because i couldnt get any spark out of #1 cyl. now all are firing and it still is hard to start when cold and runs rough til it warms up alot. My timing is at 20deg btc how do i get it to 10 deg btc as there is no distributor and will this help my problem?
