Ahhhh the 2.3. That is what i am driving right now and to the best of my limited knowledge the reason for the dual spark plugs is to increase fuel economy and provide a smother running vehicle. But i could be mistaken it might actually be used to prevent Satan from returning to the earth. But i know one thing it is always funny to see peoples expression when you tell them it is a 4 cyl. with 8 plugs.

----------

oh and they also act as backup plugs..... the truck can run not well but can run with only 4 plugs 1 per cylinder

Yeah they used 2 plugs per cylinder to burn more gas at once. That equals better gas mileage. Plus 2 plugs per cylinder makes it run a little smoother anyway. You got a strong little 4 cyl engine.

Don't listen to pantera. The plugs on the exhaust side of the head are meant to ignite unburnt fuel after the compression stroke for better emissions.
