You're not being fair to yourself by comparing yours to his. Your V6 4x4 is not going to get anywhere near the same mileage...

the truck i have now is the first 4cyl that wasn't a 4x4. i just couldn't find one. i still have my old '94 floating around the barn with a snowbear brand plow on it even tho the old ranger is not even close to being road worthy any more it does a great job at my grandparents farm.

Resetting your pcm won't do anything, but a good tune up will.

x2 agreed, That's part of the reason I kept my sonoma. It gets better mileage than my Ranger, period. It's 2wd 4 cyl 5 spd, sounds like you need to get a cheap 2wd 4 cyl Ranger and get some mileage. I can find em on Craigslist for cheap all day long, I would expect a cherry one though.

I' m sure someone has the link for this, but if all you want is mileage, I believe on mythbusters they proved that tailgateless was the best way to go over a cover.

Running without out a tailgate also take the stability it provides from the bed. If you went with one long enough or down over time the bed sides would become weaker

They also proved it got the worst gas mileage

One Link

You save more gas with the tailgate down in a pickup truck: mythbusted. You save more gas with the tailgate up.

If you truly got better MPG with no tailgate or tailgate down dont you think the manufactures would make a tailgate a option instead of standard
