I saw ZERO change in my mileage when I got my tonneau... maybe it's a difference between soft and hard?

Trucks are designed to better stability and mileage with a tailgate, adding a tonneau can smooth out the air increasing efficiency over your, so can a topper, if you get one specifically for your truck that does not stick about the cab or is one of the white generic ones with a large gap between the cab and cover. My dad has one of his Chevy half ton and it did make a difference, he also bought the topper that fit his model truck. But that can vary as well depending on how you drive, Dad drives lots of freeway, driving a lot of city you won't see that. IDK about a difference in a hard tonneau or a soft tonneau. Having a tonneau and leaving the tailgate down...no, just makes you longer and look kind of funny. Also having a lifted truck and a tonneau could mean you don't see any mileage gain because you still have to contend with the air that is going under and around the bottom of your truck, which is now different than the stock designed airflow.

Ok I honestly can't believe your gettin 600 on a tank my truck is an 08 2wd 2.3 5spd stock and the best I got was 30 avg. And that's with 75percent highway shifting at 2100 and no faster than 65mph all with mid grade. I don't think my truck has 4.10s I thought that was just the automatics. And as far as being broken in, my trucks power and mpg got slightly worse 2mpg worse and the dealer confirmed that would happen. Blueoval, IMO don't expect much more mpg after your truck is broken in unless you take in hyper-miler techniques.

i kinda have to agree with that, the best i ever got was 29 MPG, and thats highway driving in 5th gear at 60-65. maybe if we had flat land up here i could do a little better mileage wise, but up here there are nothing but hills here

I dunno Rob... I get killer mileage on I-5... I-90 sucks though... I refuse to crawl through the pass!! haha

And my lift would have nothing to do with it... see... I had my lift for about 5 months, establishing a new MPG... if the tonneau was such a help to MPG then I woulda seen an increase... but I didn't... not saying you guys are wrong... but I'm thinking it's only with the fiberglass covers... smooth and rigid maybe??

Go ahead... take that post to the gutter too :-p
