Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0W20 Oil any goood???
Any one try Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0W20 Oil on a 4 cyl ranger? Is it safe to use 0W20 on my 2010 2.3L if the oil cap says 5w20 oil?
You guys think it will actually save a little gas or mostly marketing hype?

It is mainly used in the newer German automobiles. Oils are becoming thinner and thinner due to changes in technology. We can produce parts with such small gaps between them you need a light oil to get in between them to lubricate.

my in-laws started using the 0w30 in their pontiac torrent and they've had no change in fuel economy.

Agreed don't give Ford any excuse to walk away from your drivetrain warranty. You wouldn't notice a difference in fuel mileage.

at normal operating temp, the oil will be the exact same thickness. that means no change in economy.

Re: Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0W20 Oil any goood???
theres one huge difference and that would be.........................PRICE.
read an artical years ago by AAA that compaired oils and frequency of changing.
they had some who changed every 5000 and some change 3000 and some change every 1000 miles.
the 5000mile oil changer did the worst for longevity engines gave it up at a bout 90000mile before needing some sort of repair the 3000 mile changers lasted 150000 and the 1000 changers were all still on the road.
if you change your oil frequently you can use the cheapest oil you can find.
I used to change my oil every 1000 mile but came to the realization that after 150000mile too many other things start to nickle and dime you to death . and for me thats the time to upgrade to a different vehicle.

I use full synthetic and change oil and filter every 5,000 miles and haven't had any problems yet.

These forums are both hilarious and informative, and while no one can argue that changing the oil and the filter frequently isn't unnecessary, I think that 1000 mile oil changes are quite absurd. Does the oil even break down? I heard about a Ranger owner (not sure if it was this forum or not) that changed his oil every 1000 miles, and he actually damaged a piston because the oil was changed so frequently that it never got to properly lube. I also keep hearing stories about the much better quality of oil now than in past decades. Of course, the auto companies thrive when consumers buy vehicles, so they may claim cars can go 7500 miles without an oil change. They even have lights that display on the dash, but by then, the vehicle is already overdue and/or down a quart or two. On the other hand are the oil change Quick Lubes that typically recommend every 3000 miles no matter what. I am in the middle and try to change the oil in my vehicles around 4000 - 4500 miles. I agree that engines now last awhile esp. with some tender loving care, and cars fall apart for various other reasons. In addition, not all engines are built with the same quality, so they may require more frequent changes.
