Default Engine/motor mount 2.5L (what is ford thinking?)

I have a 1999 Ford Ranger 2.5L 2wd 5sp.

I have been all over the internet and 3 ford dealers, auto zone, advance auto parts and much more. (yes I searched and looked at this and many forums)

When Im driving in HEAVY traffic and the engine is applying torque to the drive line in 1st gear and I let go of the gas the engine is applying torque in the other direction (downshift - if that makes sense) then I step on the gas again, my shifter moves and the whole truck bucks or kicks forward. (I hope I explained the feeling im getting accurately)

This to me has always been motor/ trans mount issue.

So, I purchased 2x 2853 anchor mounts and a trans mount. Went to install and driver motor mount does not fit, according to ALL auto parts store LH and RH motor mounts are the same and thus same part number for replacement. Even Fords OEM part database shows the same part #

2.5L; 4x2; RH #6038
2.5L; 4x2; LH #6038
Please see attachment....
You can clearly see the difference in the shape of the mount in this picture.

So if every one on the planet thinks these mounts are the same where in the world can I find the driver motor mount for my ranger?

I can provide a picture of my mounts side by side if it helps any....

Thanks to all for your assistance.

bucking and kicking sound to me like your are popping the clutch out at to low an RPM. The shifter will have movement, everything is on a rubber mount, they should move

ik what he means by the bucking/kicking deal. like when your in first and your coasting in gear and its slowing the truck down, if you step on the gas itl do that(almost like if you blurped the throttle, but this time your not trying).

No, this has nothing to do with clutch or "working the clutch"
(thanks for the tips......)

SalRanger2 is on the money with his first reply.
Ill coast in first with no throttle from lets say 3000 rpm down to 1500 then go to step on the throttle "VERY LIGHT" to pick up speed again and my neck snaps back. Its much more violent then it should be......

On to the motor mounts,
Ive attached pictures of the mounts (driver side on right). As you can see they're different. The drivers side is somewhat recessed thus shorter and the frame side threaded bolt is off center. Also driver side mount threaded bolt and alignment pin is spaced differently so the same part (passenger side) will not fit.

any ideas?

Thanks

What the hell? I checked anchors site, oreillys, advanced auto, and rock auto. All say just one part number for both.

Check motorcrafts website. It says both mounts are 6038 BUT it lists two 6038 parts. 2 different prices. I bet they are the same middle Ford part numbers. Ford format is usually XXXX-XXXXX-XX. The 6038 would be the middle part number. I bet the last two digits are AA and AB, each one being for drivers and passenger side.

Either that or ford updated the parts to be the same for both. I would take your originals and swap sides to see if they can physically swap.

Thanks sheltonfilms....

I know I wasn't going crazy.

Ill try swapping sides with the originals and report in the morning....

If you look at the diagram on my first post really closely you'll notice the mounts are shaped like the ones I have (originals)

Do you know any good ford oem parts look up sites?

All parts departments are closed on sundays and I would love to get this done this weekend. Or at least the research.

thanks
gabe

Also, does these mounts ever go bad? I have 170000 miles on her. I doubt im the only one who ran into this problem......

Just cant find any posts about it.

Bring your part into the store where you got the replacement. Maybe they'll have better luck finding the right part.

Ya I tried that with advance and autozone. No luck. They told me "nothing I can do for ya" being it shows up in all computer systems as the same part number.

I was randomly looking at other mounts and found Anchor 2937 Front Left Mount. Its for 01ish 3.0l. Its not shaped the same but its shorter. No idea if the bolt and alignment pin are even close.... Worth the hassle? (attached is the picture of the 2937)

Are all 98+ 2.3 and 2.5 mounts the same. From what Ive read these engines are virtually the same. Just curious.

Thanks,
Gabe

Well, I tried swapping sides with the originals and its a no go.

The frame side of the drivers mount (bolt and alignment pin) are spaced differently so it will not seat in the frame on the passenger side.

This is getting weird.....

Any other Ideas or does it look like a Monday call to the ford dealer?
Being that the only potential good news so far is that ford lists the same 6038 part number but has a different price for LH and RH.......

Thanks,

Gabe

I would email/call anchor and see what they say about it.

I would rather pay 30 bucks vs 75 per mount if you can.

OK,

After an entire weekend of research and driving place to place this is what I found out....

FORD factory Part numbers

YL5Z6038BA - Driver Side
YL5Z6038BB - Passenger Side

Anchor Industries makes a Passenger side - 2853 - but NOT a drivers side. (I spoke with a very knowledgeable tech from Anchor)

EVERY aftermarket auto parts retailer WILL tell you its the same part for both passenger and driver side.

THIS IS NOT TRUE!!!

If you own a 98-01 Ranger 2wd with a 2.5L you will not be able to find a driver side motor mount unless you can find the now discontinued Ford factory part of YL5Z6038BA.

Until someone can prove me wrong, no after market company makes the driver side motor mount for this specific application. If you find one please look at the part number for both sides first. If they are the same number then they are WRONG.

I hope my waste of time will be someones saving of time.

Thanks everyone for your input.

Gabe
