Unhappy Please help, can't figure it out

I have a 2001 2.3 liter 4 cylinder ford ranger that threw up 6 codes (P0135, P0400, P0131, P0132, P0171 and P0172). When I drive it it will go fine then all of a sudden lose power (not shut off, it just won't go) I can shut it off and start back up by either starter or dumping the clutch and it runs fine but it eventually starts it again and I have no clue what it could be. Please help.

Cool Re: Please help, can't figure it out

P0135 This code is pertaining to faulty EGR flow

All of the other codes have to do with Oxygen sensor bank 1.

Have you tried checking to make sure ur MAF sensor is not dirty bc this can cause the O2 sensor codes.

----------

U might also try check the oxygen sensor wires to see if they are shorting on anything and mayb check the O2 sensor voltage.

I'm think it is the oxygen sensor. The other codes suggest that the internal elements of the O2 sensor are faulty. If it was the MAF, it would only show lean/rich codes.

Those codes are for your O2 (Bank1, Sensor 1). Bank 1 is the engine side with cylinder #1. Since you have a 4 banger you only have one Bank. Sensor 1 is pre cat/upstream.

I would first look at your wires leading up to the sensor to make sure they are not frayed or broken.

glad you got it figured out, haven't heard of an 02 sensor taking THAT hard of a shit before.

Any truth to the claim that better quality gas prevents this issue?

Yeah me either that's why it threw me off but I figured it out when I unplugged it and it ran fine so I just went and bought a new one and put it in and bam runs like new

----------

I'm not sure about the gas thing but I do know that replacing it gave me WAY better gas mileage I get over 400 miles on a tank now

----------

And still going

That actually brings up a question I had. I have a 97 w/ a 2.3 and I believe I have 2 O2 sensors; is that correct? One on the manifold, and one just before the cat? Sorry to divert from the original question.

Old thread, but yes. Your 2.3 has more in common with my 2.5s than the OP's 2.3L.
