Default Requesting information on some performance upgrades

So I recently took my ranger on a 1000 mile road trip and I was disappointed in how it handled hills above 5% grade.

I have a 2.5L 2000 Ranger and I want to look into decking it out with some performance parts.

What kind of gains can I expect to see if I went balls to wall on performance parts vs If I wanted to say swap the engine out for something bigger in general?

If possible I would like to look into 2 areas.

Fuel economy (MPG) and Power.

What parts can be upgraded or added to find the best mix?

Just giving this post a bump.

Also I think I want to start with a new Exhaust system. Everything from the manifold to the tip. (cat converter included). Any one have any suggestions on how to figure out a good one for my truck?

You're probably going to see very little gain with a 2.5 unless you turbo or super-charge it. Exhaust, tuning, etc. will probably only get you a few more horses and still cost quite a bit.

TURBO would be the best bang for your buck

you need to check out http://turborangerforums.com/

Anything but a forced induction setup will just be a waste of money.
