Default 2000 Ranger 4 Cyl, Elect problem.

I replaced alternator and battery with both new. I had the new alt tested at parts store to make sure it was ok and going to charge. The reason was the charge hand was on the line just above the L on the guage, and battery light came on. The truck would run if you jumped it for a few minutes, and when the battery ran down,( I would guess that it was running off of the jump charge) It made no difference at all. I also replaced the cable ends at battery. Any idea what to looks for. Blown link, blown fuze? Thank you, This is the first time that I have been on the site. Nice. Mike haley.

So what it your issue? Your new battery and alternator are not holding a charge or providing enough power to your vehicle?

OR

Your vehicles runs fine, but needs to be jumped at start up?

He is saying that his battery is not charging even after the alternator swap. He says that it will run after jumpstarting (of course this is charging his battery) and will run off the battery till the battery dies. His battery isn't being charged by the alternator.

I would check fuse 14 (30 AMP) in the fuse box under your hood first.
Did your old alternator fail testing?

Before I post back the testing procedure, I'm gonna see what your response is.

Thank all of you for helping. The battery light a is still on and the charge needle is still just above the line above the L on guage. I think that it is not charging and running off the new battery. I will check fuse 30. Any more ideas?

----------

I forgot, I always have parts store check even all new alternator that I buy for me. It passed with no problems.

----------

Fuse 14 30 Amp

The new alt had a tag on it that suggested that I check volt reg wire plug. where it plugs into the alt/ It is the single wire plug. I did a ohms check and it checked ok.
