Default Engine rpm rises to 3000 when cluch disengaged

At times my 1998 ranger 2.5 l rpm will rise up to 3000 rpm when the cluch is disengaged. The rpm stays at 3000 until the truck is stopped and no longer moving. This happins mostly when the wheather is warm.it doesn't happen all the time. Will come and go all by i's self. Took it to my mech. And had a tune up. Changed pvc etc. And cleaned the throtle body. Problem is still there. Anyone know how to fix this problem?

always done it? how long u had the ranger??? i think most rangers do that.

I vote IAC valve as well. Try cleaning it out with a wire brush and some carburetor cleaner. The internals are probably sticking from all the residue build up.

Thanks for all the good info. I changed the iac valve and the truck runs great. No more problems. Thanks again to all. Will post if any new preblem occurs. Thanks frank
