Default Terrible Fuel mileage / Hesitation

'94 Ranger w/2.3L....after I changed the timing belt (and that LOVELY front crank seal - paid a guy $85 to remove the gear so I could replace the seal....supposed to slide right off)..Anyway, the truck never seemed to have quite the power it did before I changed the timing belt...question is "can the gears crank or cam be off 1 tooth and still run? Thanks in advance.

Yes they can be off by a tooth and still run but in my experience, it won't run very well.

Severly diminished performance and rough idle are the clear signs it is off by a tooth (or more). I would pull everything apart and check for TDC....take your time and do it right so you dont have a repeat of what your going through now.

It has to be EXACT so quadruple check your stuff before AND after the belt is in place.

yes...a single tooth can cause horrible losses in performance but the engine will still technically run
