Default Trucks running hot, temp flucuating

Spelling is off, but the temp moves after warming up

Since the ass at orileys refuses to let me use the scan tool (going to autozone later hopefully) Im going to see if you all can help.

Once again got coolant problems. On the way home last week the heater valve burst and sprayed coolant everywhere. Replaced it and drove home, before and after my temp gauge would go to normal, raise some and drop down below cool quickly. sometimes itd stay there for awhile, or it would go back up to normal and repeat later. Occasionally hear bubbling after shutting truck off.

New heater vavle, various hoses, radiator, water pump, over flow tank, and overflow tank pressure cap.

Also seems my coil pack is getting a burn mark on it like my previous one did, which caused sluggishness and hesitation...

New thermostat is 150 bucks, and a new head gasket or head is well, you know...

Hoping to see what you all think. anyone know what the temp sending unit or sensors run?

In a way I hope its my thermostat, but 150 bpplus tax is insane for a thermo.

Is there a way to check it before replacement? For that matter is this a sign of failure to come, and not failure itself?(as is does eventually close back up allowing temp to rise after staying stuck open?)

Its been doing this for over a year. Thats why Ive been replacing things. It runs fine otherwise, just keep adding coolant here and there :x

From the looks it isnt just the thermostat piece, but housing and all that fun stuff.

No aftermarkets at the stores either :/

You are correct it is in fact the housing and seals not the thermostat its self. The thermostat its self is infact right around $10 but the housing and seals are the parts that will set you back aout $100-$150. Ive done some research today and it seems to have been a commen problem on trucks with the 4.0 from 01 to 03. I also think that if you go as deep as to replace the housing and seals you might as well do the $10 thermostat.
