synthetic oil saves gas or BS??
Royal purple 5w-20 oil vs motorcraft 5w-20 synthetic blend?
will it actually improve MPG or BS? Is it just a little or like 2MPG.

Re: synthetic oil saves gas or BS??
i have heard of this but only if you change all of your fluids to synthetic royal purple. such as the differential, ATF, motor oil etc etc i will eventually be making the change

Re: synthetic oil saves gas or BS??
Engine oil by itself is not enough to make a measurable difference. From what others have said on this sight, a complete change over does though. You can't go cheap though from what I understand. It has be Royal Purple, Amsoil, or something along those lines.

Re: synthetic oil saves gas or BS??
yeah youre going to have to spend a lot of money to swap everything out, you need all your fluids swapped out and atthat point you may see a slight change in mpg by a mile or 2. its good for the vehicle, but pricey as all hell, the plus side is most people dont keep up on diff fluid changes or tranny fluid changes. so it will be better for that and the oil, well thats your call, i cant justify that kind of price, and no matter what anyone says about the oil and how it last longer, im not going to wait 15k between oil changes.

Re: synthetic oil saves gas or BS??
I did one of these experiments a few years ago. It was on a 96 Chevy Blazer. I was making a lot of roadtrips( New Orleans to Knoxville,Tenn) over the same routes. I swapped out the engine oil, ATF and rear end oil with Royal Purple fluids. The next trip, the mileage was the same.........

Re: synthetic oil saves gas or BS??
2mpg from changing your oils?? Ya right. If you actually did gain it, that means something was wrong with it before. You don't gain 2mpg by pouring magical juices into your truck.

Re: synthetic oil saves gas or BS??
We've been through this b4.
Almost the entire drive train is turning while driving. ANY reduction of friction makes a difference.
RP works.
That is all.

Re: synthetic oil saves gas or BS??
If you really want a difference watch the "Gashole" documentary, and build your adaptor.

Re: synthetic oil saves gas or BS??
I doub't you will gain more than 1 mpg if that. Like someone mentioned you might gain back what you should have, like with spark plugs. Also the additional cost of most of those brands would probably not offset the gain in mpg to make it worthwhile, unless of course you just want to treat your truck better than its ok cause the gain might help pay for itself. Over all i think you could only hope to break even with the cost of premium synthetics, but at least you would have good sludge insurance, better shifts, cooler running components, etc

Re: synthetic oil saves gas or BS??
the only difference ive seen with oils is that i put some 0w-40 in my old talon before, it was turbo charged, and it seemed to rev a little quicker with the thin oil but no mpg difference

Ya. But not that much. RP is not what gained you 2mpg.

Re: synthetic oil saves gas or BS??
If your looking for fuel effeciency....dont buy a truck! If you want an effecient vehicle based off of model, proper service and maintenance schedule is all you can do.

2 mpg by switching from 5w-20 synthetic blend to Royal Purple? If I changed the semi syn oil to conventional the fuel economy would drop 4 mpg.
You will only gain 2 mpg if you had run molasses in the engine to begin with.
Royal Purple and Amsoil fanboys are just silly.
